Ode To Vostok

Tasty little pieces of Soviet industry. The manufacturers of the Vostok (NOT Vostok-Europe, a totally unrelated entity) historically supplied the USSR Defence Ministry with its standard-issue watches, and those of you who know me personally’ll know that I just can’t resist a heritage like this. :D
Just ordered one from Zenitar on eBay for £30 plus P&P, WOOHOO. He’ll ship to anywhere in the world, highly recommended if you wanna pick up a watch that has history, reliability and accessibility (in terms of cash spent) going for it.
Note that this is a mechanical watch, i.e. one that you have to wind up each morning. This was how watches were initially made, with bunches of gears and springs, until Seiko came up with the quartz electronic movement. Sure, the latter is way more accurate, but hey, don’t you think there’s a certain something about a classically-made mechanical watch that an impersonal quartz just can’t capture? :)
